Format

Up to 12 songs with introduction and through-line banter by Ryan Hill as MC. Goal is to build an ongoing show with multiple performances where numbers and musicians can swap out as is convenient. Looking to build a small core of 3-4 artists with “special guest” artists rotating in when possible.

Though we’re rehearsing, the cabaret format means artists will bring their songs mostly complete.

Singers: Most numbers will be solos. One group number at the end where everyone gets a verse. Some back-up singing on other numbers.

Five piece band: Keyboard, drum kit/percussion, cello/bass, rhythm guitar, trombone.

Rehearsals: One full rehearsal with the the week of the performance. Another rehearsal the day of performance.

Compensation: Everyone will be paid a fee based on the numbers they need to learn and perform. $200/song learned ($100/backup singing), $100/rehearsal, $75/song ($50/backup) performed.

  • Example rate: Singer who sings one solo and backup on four others = $1,075

  • Example rate: Musician who performs 9 songs = $2,675

Performances: Currently negotiating with Volstead’s speakeasy for a summer performance (June/July), next performance possible in October.

Current Set List

This is a desired list curated, but i’m more than happy to talk to you if you have something in your repertoire.

The Future: Leonard Cohen at his best upbeat nihilism.

Change is on the Rise: Avi Kaplan

A Policeman Needs a Riot: Malvina Reynolds protest song still resonates.

Personal Jesus: Re-imagined to be about your mobile device and social media. Arranged into a gospel number. Production number.

Is That All There Is?: What do you do when everything goes to shit? Break out the booze and have a ball.

For What It’s Worth: Classic Buffalo Springfield song, but a rocking, hard-edged version like the linked video.

All You Fascists (Bound to Lose): Woody Guthrie protest song.

As the World Caves In: Big crooner duet.

Take me to Church: Big emotional punch to get us to the end of night.

It Comes and Goes (in Waves): Everyone gets a verse, then sing chorus together. The emotional climax of the night.

After this, the event will be “raided” by authorities. Lights out. Chaos and noise in the darkened house to set up…

Last Dance: A surprise finale lip sync by a drag performer. Mirror ball, hopefully some dancing and celebration of resistance.
