come be the spark

marzipanik is a new arts production company launching in the Twin Cities. Join us April 15th as we launch our first two events with music, performances, and a call to build community around art.

We’ve got big ideas and big stories and it’ll take a community of artists and arts supporters to bring them to life. This is a crazy time to be alive, to be an American, to be an artist, to be a Minnesotan, to be… human. Art is the voice of a community. It’s time to raise our voices. Time to panik!

marzipanik is hosting the event (attendance is free) at the Bryant Lake Bowl Theatre. It’s also a chance to support that vital local arts venue by buying dinner and drinks during the event.

Our first two productions will be The Resistance Cabaret and The Portrait…

The Resistance Cabaret

April 25, 2026

8pm @ The Phoenix Theatre, Minneapolis

It’s been 20 years since the fall of the American Republic as we knew it. 20 years since free elections, freedom of speech, freedom from religion. The resistance has been pushed deep underground.

But it’s time for us to celebrate! Because something else happens while you’re underground… your roots grow strong.

The Resistance Cabaret is a rambunctious, full-throated evening of music to keep us energized through the ongoing fight against authoritarianism and rising waves of fear in our country.

Featuring a lineup of professional musicians from across the Twin Cities’ vibrant music scene. One performance only!

Presented as part of Earth Week at the Phoenix Theatre.

Ticket information coming soon.

The Portrait

performances in 2027

A new story of an old fight. How does society give away its power? How does the powerful take it? The Portrait is a dark absurdist oil wrestling match pitched in the austerity and filth of revolution. Potent, silly, angry, and caring, it brings the ongoing fight for control and survival to the stage.

This dark absurdist story will be told using highly-stylized movement, music, puppetry, and luscious designs marzipanik’s artists have been perfecting for decades. A feast for the eyes and mind.

Also learning from our communal years as producers and artists, this work will be an attempt to reform how a theatrical production is built - with creative collaboration and respect for artists at the forefront.

Workshops are starting in summer 2026 with showings periodic until first performances sometime in 2027.
